The 50th Anniversary surprise revealed....

Remember the crazy summer I have been complaining about off and on? Well last month topped it all. I mentioned I would maybe share with you the biggest stress of all. This is also one of my "dusty" old talents I rarely get to enjoy. I grew up loving art. Why do I call my skills"dusty"? Well I don't get the time to really enjoy them as much as I use to... Say like 5 years ago. I get to pull out the art supplies maybe once a year. I wouldn't say I am the best at portraits, but I have done a few. My strongest skills are more in illustration and my creativity. I have done murals and hope to do more when my kids are all in school.
So my husbands parents 50th anniversary was this last week end. I was asked to do a portrait of them with the temple they got married in, in the background. They are such great parents and awesome in-laws. I figured they were totally worth it. Even after all of the pencil throwing and words under my breath, I would like to think it was still worth it. My husband on the other hand would disagree. I think He ended up being my punching bag through most of this ;0) (just kidding)

Some of the pics I worked from...(I had to use several pics of his mom because none of them were really working)

And the final piece. What a relief.

Well, That's that. I can't say it turned out exactly like them, but it was close enough. All and all I was more then happy to surprse them with this gift. They are the best in-laws and parents.

That's Gotta Hurt! (Favorite Photo)

Yes, "That's Gotta Hurt" and it did. Not to long ago my little boy had two very loose teeth. The roots to his two front teeth had totally desolved caused from some past trauma. Knowing him it could have been from anything like falling off a chair to running into a wall. The two teeth were so loose and dad was sure he could pull them out quickly and pain free. When I heard how he was going to pull the teeth out I was totally against it. My husband claimed his dad use pliers to pull his teeth as well. For some reason I agreed and decided to take pictures. What you don't see is what happened next. My husband pulled, but the tooth did not come out. I stopped taking pictures to comfort my sobbing son.

This sounds like such a sad story and I truly felt bad for my poor son. What made this somewhat comical was when I happened upon a picture of my husbands dad using the same plier teeth pulling method.

And there you go!
So you know, my son has since lost his two teeth. Mommy finally pulled them out when they were really ready to come out, not to mention after he gained his trust back in mommy and daddy.

Save more Money on your Auto Expenses (Guest Post)

Today we have another fabulous guest post from Barbara of Never2Late2Save. She has an awesome site geared towards saving $$$. Who wouldn't love to hear more on that. Make sure you check out the links in this post, as they will link you to further information regarding the specific topic. I want to thank her for joining us and being a guest on "Catch the Drift with Mama Snow".

Save more Money on your Auto Expenses

Finding the best deal on your auto expenses is truly difficult and time consuming. I learned that there are many ways to save on cars if you look in the right places. Over the last 4 years I've been able to get major work done on my car for a fraction of the price and hopefully I can help you do the same.

1. Shop Around. We all know that you can save more by shopping multiple store and this definitely applies to automobiles. Try to get a quote from at least 3 different shops. Prices can range from a $100-$900 difference depending on the job. Make sure to take in account the reputation of the shop you choose.
2. Talk Down The Price. Don't under estimate the power of negotiation. If the price is to high but you really need the work done ask for a discount. Some shop managers will discount the parts/services. I've seen discounts as high as $500 off.
3. Ask a family member or friend. Utilize your friends and family that are mechanics(preferably certified). They can save you lots of money. Most mechanics can get discounts on parts at local auto parts store just for being a mechanic. Let them make the purchase for you and ask if they can put it on. Lots of mechanics look for side jobs to make extra cash. They will charge you less than it will cost you at the actual shop.
4. Buy Used Parts. Find a parts recycler location near you to get the part you need instead. I've bought transmission for $150, axle for $75, and engine for $550 from a used parts dealer for a truly discounted price, including a warranty. Once you buy it and you can't put it in yourself take it to your mechanic to have them put it in. Your only going to pay the cost of labor rather than the high jacked price for part from them.
5. Do it yourself. Everybody dreads the DIY term when it comes to cars but I personally think that it is the best way to lower your auto expenses. If you can change your own oil and tire try switching your own alternator. Usually its in the front of the car in arms reach. Pull up the repair manual online or go on You Tube for a video on how to do the repair yourself.

Prevent Major Repairs:

Pay attention the lights on the dashboard. I don't mean running to the mechanic when a light comes on. Educate yourself on what each light means here, so that you know and understand whats going on with your car. Some people ignore these lights, had they payed attention it could have been resolved before the issue got worse.

Maintenance you car regularly. Always make sure your car gets its scheduled maintenance. To find out how long go to your owners manual, if you can't find you manual use these tips here. Even some of the lights on your dashboard tell you its time for your next scheduled maintenance.

Barbara is 20 and a mother of 2 curious children that enjoy attention. She realized how expensive living on her own could be and decided to become more frugal. She says her goal on Never2Late2Save is to show that you can be any age and save.

Hot On The Range review and giveaway.... (Closed)

*Note: Be sure to check out the 2 giveaways. One is meant for "Catch the Drift..." readers and the other is for those who purchase...

I love books and I love reading. Most of all I love reading to my children. Each night they choose a book that either my husband or I will read to them. It is always exciting when they have a new favorite book. Not only do I get a new book to memorize as I read it for the 10th time, but I too will find reasons to fall in love with the book or its message. So what is our new favorite book? Let me introduce to you "Hot on The Range", written by R.D. Jentsch.

What We Loved:
Every child loves animals. My children especially love animals and are interested in their everyday lives. I love how this story brings new questions to their minds. Some of these questions were "How does a shade tree make the animal cool off?" and "Why did the goat head butt the stick?". These questions and others give me the opportunity to teach my children and gives them the chance to learn. Obviously I don't know why Goats ram things, but I did explain it is something goats do and it is important to watch out for them if they start running towards you. I think my son accepted that answer ;0)
One of my favorite things about "Hot on the Range" is the characters created in each of the animals. You are really able to see the animals come to life and in the child's eyes you are able to visually understand what makes animals do what they do. Like why they lie in the shade, why they drink in a trough, etc.

The Author:
You can learn more about the author, RD Jentsch, at her personal blog www.rdjentsch.com or www.hotontherange.com

Don't be surprised if you see more books by this Author, as she is currently working on another book featuring stories on funny things little kids say or do.

New Free Website Monitoring Service

So you’ve taken the next step, and you’ve finally brought your budding small business or blog to the web. What’s next? Well, I could certainly give you a long—and daunting—list of new obligations, but one thing you should definitely think about is setting up a web monitoring service for your new site.

Think about it: when your new site finally goes live, you have enough to worry about, from content updates to answering the flood of new e-mails filling your inbox from visitors to your web page. You shouldn’t have to also get bogged down in worrying about whether your page is functional moment-to-moment. That’s where this cool web monitoring service comes in.

For absolutely no charge—you just have to register—24X7 Website Monitoring will keep tabs on your web page for you, making sure everything’s working just the way it’s supposed to be. Depending upon the option you choose, this new free website monitoring program will check on your site in 15, 30, or 60 minute intervals. And if something’s not working correctly? They’ll notify you immediately, by e-mail or SMS.

On top of all that, daily tracking reports of your site’s functionality are kept on file for 30 days at a time, so you can log in any time and see how your site is performing over a longer-term time-frame. Plus, the free service also allows you to check on the relative speed of your web page. That’s right: you can check out response times on your page, and compare those to similarly-themed web pages, to make sure you’re stacking up well against the competition.

Certainly, as your web site—and your business—grows, you’ll want to consider upgrading to one of the 24X7 Website Monitoring premium plans, which allow you to keep track of up to 15 separate web pages, rather than the standard 5 for the free account.

Interested in the service, why not head on over to 24X7 Website Monitoring and try out the free Demo? By clicking on “Demo” at the top of the homepage, you’ll be able to click through a mock version of the service, and see just exactly how all the different features could work for your business.

Similar monitoring services are readily available, but the vast majority of them cost a lot more than an enterprising small business owner needs to spend. The folks at 24X7 Website Monitoring think your money is better spent on growing your business.

So check out the web site today, and give the Demo a try to see if this free service is right for your business!
