one frugal lady said...: My favorite holiday tradition for Thanksgiving is when everyone comes over, we stop them at the door, and they have to write down what they are thankful for on construction paper. When everyone is done, we cut them out in strips and make a chain. We later read what everyone is thankful for at the dinner table!

Annie1 said...: My mom just passed away on Oct 17th, she was just 68 and had both Alzheimers and Cancer, so this Christmas will be "different" but I'm determined to keep our traditions going!

Mom, every year since I can remember would toast almonds. We would purchase the raw, skin on almonds and cover them in boiling water. After a while we would strain the hot water off and put cold water on them. The shells would then "pop" off when you squeezed them on the right angle!!

We'd then split them by hand (knife), melt some butter on a cookie sheet, lay the almonds out and put them in a low $200 oven until they were golden brown and the whole house smelled delicious!

When they were done, she would sprinkle a little salt on them and let them cool. In a bowl they would go and she'd mix in some raisins!

They were out over the entire holiday season!

The first one: The night of Christmas Eve we always were allowed to have one present and it was always pajamas. We have a big PJ party with hot chocolate or Hot totties for the adults. We also make our breakfast for the next morning.. which is our second tradition...

Christmas morning wifesaver. Gets made the night before, left in car overnight and baked the next morning for an hour. Its awesome and we have it every year at christmas. I highly recommend it. We use an old family recipe..but you can find them online. ..one word of advice though.. NEVER use the cornflakes that some people recommend.. yuck!!
